A rainbow can make a mountain look gentle even when the weather that created it is anything but simple.
That is what I love about this frame. The light is beautiful. The colors are almost unreal. But the trail is still rough, the sky is still active, and conditions are clearly moving through the landscape.
Weather has taught me to hold two ideas at the same time. I can be amazed and cautious. I can stop for the photograph and still keep track of what the clouds are doing. Beauty does not remove consequence.
That awareness has become part of how I experience the outdoors. I am not trying to outsmart the sky. I am trying to notice it early enough to make good decisions. Wind direction, temperature, visibility, distant rain—small changes can become important faster than pride expects.
And yet I never want caution to make me numb to the moment. A rainbow across mountain country is worth stopping for. It is worth feeling. The world can be dangerous and astonishing in the same frame.
Weather Turning reminds me why the mountains feel alive. Nothing is guaranteed to stay the way it looked at the trailhead. Light changes. The trail changes. The body changes. The plan may need to change too.
The lesson is not to fear that movement. It is to stay awake enough to move with it.
