Leave Fear at the Bottom

A few months before the fall, I stood at the base of a brutal mountain late at night. Freezing cold. Rain. Darkness. A partner who told me he was scared.

The lesson was not that fear makes somebody weak. The lesson was that fear changes decisions. In dangerous terrain, hesitation can become consequence. I chose to continue alone rather than carry someone else's fear into a climb where judgment mattered.
