What Shaped Me

Earning Loco

The name became the accumulation of lived experience—not a nickname detached from the miles behind it.

Earning Loco

Loco was never meant to be a costume I could put on for the outdoors. The name accumulated meaning slowly. It came from the miles, the difficult decisions, the days that went well, the days that did not, the fall, the rebuilding, and the willingness to keep returning with more respect than before.

A name becomes useful when it points to something real. For me, Loco Hiker is the outdoor record of that lived experience. It is photography, writing, weather, fatigue, humor, risk, recovery, and the quiet moments between the dramatic ones. It is not a claim that I have mastered the mountains. If anything, the years outside have made me more aware of how much there is to learn.

Earning the name means the work comes first. The identity follows. Every photograph and story on this site belongs to that order: experience before image, judgment before performance, terrain before ego. The miles behind the name matter because they are what keep it connected to reality.
